y now I am sure that everyone has heard that the iPhone is coming to Verizon. Oh Boy, I am sooooo zzzzzzz...... bored. Let me preface this with this: we have had an iPhone for a couple of years on AT&T and have never had an issue. Not one. The data is fast, calls are rarely dropped, overall a great experience. So why is everyone excited about the Verizon iPhone? Why are folks jumping with joy to switch to another mega provider? I am not convinced that switching to Verizon will make that much of a difference. Especially when the #1 mobile OS is active on their network. I am also not convinced that AT&Ts reported issues are not related to the phone itself. The iPhone is amazing, but I know folks with Blackberries on AT&T that have never dropped a call.
I can only guess that, because the majority of those in media live in NY. And, the majority of the tech media live in SF, that the opinion of AT&T is adversely affected by the local rules and restrictions of those regions. I know that in NorCal, you have to camouflage towers so that they match the trees. In NY it is nearly impossible to get a permit to build a tower. So, I can only speculate that the same issues that plague AT&T will carry over to the check mark. Is Verizon that much better? Some say yes. However what are you giving up when you move? Customer Service, yes. Speed on the data network, yes.
Why do I care about this? I hope that everyone jumps. Please do. That will free up more bandwidth for me. I am going to predict now, that when everyone jumps to Verizon in NY and SF, the folks still on AT&T will have much better service. I said it. I know that is controversial or whatever, but that is my best guess as to what will happen. Also, I feel like if Apple is giving the iPhone to Verizon, that other providers can't be too far behind. Especially given their commitment to the Enterprise.
